“Blank Generation” by Richard Hell and the Voidoids.

My new favorite song is from ’70s.  And recommended to me by Genius.

Besides appealing to me on a purely aesthetic level, it strikes me as strangely evocative of the people coming of age in Azerbaijan today.  A “blank generation” raised to worship a man whose teflon legacy belies a lack of any positive change in the lives of most Azerbaijanis.  Whose education is neglected to the point that the most valuable lessons they learn in school seem to be about how to pay rüşvət (bribes) or avoid them.  They can take it or leave it each time…
